Our Carbon Neutral by 2021 objective has hit overdrive and we are now officially Carbon Positive. With the help of the wonderful team at EKOS we have minimised our carbon output and offset what remains (and then some).
The need to transition to a low carbon economy is pressing and with the support of EKOS we have just taken a huge step in the right direction. EKOS is an international non-profit enterprise that develops innovative approaches to financing a sustainable future. They have made an intimidating process painless and we are now the first officially carbon positive property management company in New Zealand!
How does it work?
For the past year we have been working on removing as many harmful products and processes from our office as we can. From transitioning to an electric fleet of cars and switching to Meridian (a 100% renewable power company) to using SmartAss products for our bathrooms we have been getting more sustainable inch by inch.
With the help of the EKOS carbon calculator we calculated what remained and what we needed to offset via carbon credits to become Carbon Neutral (with an additional contribution to become Carbon Positive).
What is a Carbon Credit?
One carbon credit represents one tonne of carbon dioxide that has been taken out of the atmosphere by a forest. It focuses on the growth of new forests and the protection of existing forests from logging.
The next step
Our next step is getting everyone else on board – carbon neutral homes are the future and we want to help you get there. The ultimate goal for all of us is to have a net positive impact on the planet and it is possible!
